Wanyan Liu will be a MSc student working on advanced numerical modelling and uncertainty quantification of masonry compressive strength obtained from prism tests. She will join Dr. Yong Li’s SM&RA (Structural Modelling and Reliability Analysis) research group in the Fall of 2019. She studied Structural Engineering in the School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, in China. She also visited the University of Alberta under the supervision of Dr. Carlos as an intern in the summer of 2018.
Her research project in the Masonry Centre at University of Alberta will focus on the statistical study of the variables affecting the masonry strength based on experimental database and numerical simulations of masonry prisms. The main objective is to develop a probabilistic masonry strength prediction model with uncertainty quantified, which allows reliability re-assessment of concrete masonry walls against out-of-plane failure.
